Oum el Bouaghi
The past of the Oum el Bouaghi region extends back to the prehistoric period: around 8,000 BC. BC, remains attest to the presence of troglodytes living by hunting and gathering. An integral part of the kingdom of Numidia, until the Punic period, the evolution of the region’s economy highlights an agrarian system dominated by the cultivation of the olive tree, notably in Guediovala (KsarSbahi) and Makomades (Oum El Bouaghi).
The wilaya of Oum El Bouaghi is a natural extension of the first historic state (Aures, Batna, AlNamamcha) during the great liberation revolution (1954-1962). She gave birth to many righteous martyrs, such as Larbi Ben Mhidi.
The wilaya of Oum El Bouaghi results from the administrative division of 1974 when it depended on the former department of Constantine; it is located in eastern Algeria and has common borders with the following wilayas: Khenchela, Batna, Mila, Constantine, Guelma, Souk Ahras, Tebessa.
The wilaya of Oum El Bouaghi is characterized by a diverse natural environment which is distributed as follows: The plains area occupies 63.8% of the total area of the wilaya and is characterized by the distribution of fertile agricultural land, while the plateaus and other lands represent 18.9%. The mountainous region remains, representing 17.3% of the total area and distributed in the northern region.
